Hike #1. A short hike down the railroad access road

Friday, January 11, 2013  Grace and Caleb and I took advantage of a break in the cold weather and did our first outing of the year. It was just a short hike, but it felt good to get out and see the world a bit. We went down the access road that runs next to the railroad tracks next to our house. Caleb enjoyed playing in the mud and playing with sticks. Gracie found several interesting rocks, and several pieces of cast off steel that she wants to use for a sculpture.  We cut a few staves for hiking sticks, and they are currently drying in my shed.

Duration: 30-45 minutes
Length: unk. Not far.
Weather: 55 deg, wind S 5-10 mph, partly sunny
Lessons learned:  always take your possibles bag. We really could have used something to bring the steel  home in.
